Water Boil Alert Milingimbi

Department of Health

Weather conditions resulting from Tropical Cyclone Nathan and advice from Power and Water Corporation indicate the quality of water supply for the community of Milingimbi may become affected.  Cyclones and their associated weather conditions have the potential to disrupt water supply infrastructure.

Power and Water Corporation is carrying out emergency management planning provisions to minimise disruption to water supplies.  The water supply will be tested again as conditions return to normal to ensure that the water is safe to drink.

In the interim and as a precautionary measure, it is recommended that water for drinking and oral hygiene be obtained from either packaged bottled water or by bringing tap water to the boil and allowing to cool prior to use.

Once advice has been received that the water supply system is fully operational and the water is safe to drink the Department of Health will advise on the removal of the precautionary notice.

There are now three communities subject to a precautionary water boil alert – Milingimbi, Gapuwiyak and Galiwin’ku.

Further precautionary water boil alerts may be issue for further communities in the path of Tropical Cyclone Nathan.
