NT hard-to-fill jobs on show in Ireland and Poland

The Department of Business is attending international job expos aimed at skilled workers to promote hard-to-fill job vacancies in the Territory on behalf of local businesses.

In partnership with Chamber of Commerce NT and Motor Trades Association NT, the Department of Business will participate in the Working Abroad 2015 Expos in Ireland and Poland from 21-29 March 2015.

Territory businesses have provided current job vacancies to the delegation which will be promoted at the three expos. The delegation attended an expo in Dublin over the weekend (21-22 March), and will participate in similar events in Cork (25 March) and Warsaw (28-29 March).

Any businesses that have hard-to-fill job vacancies can still register their jobs which will be profiled at the expos still to be held. In the coming months there will also be opportunities to promote these jobs at the Department of Business’ Skills, Employment and Careers Expo, as well as other events in interstate locations.

Department of Business Director of Skilled Migration, Mary Martin said “the expos are great opportunity to attract skilled international migrants who wish to live and work in the Territory and to expand and diversify the Northern Territory’s skill base.”

“Territory employers have a number of positions that they have been unable to fill through advertising to local workers or national workers.  When local businesses have exhausted all options of employing positions locally or from other Australian states, they look to overseas workers to fill much needed vacancies and we have a number of visa options available to them to do so.”

This is the first time a Working Abroad Expo is being held in Poland.

“Ireland and the United Kingdom have long been a key source for skilled professionals and trade workers to the Northern Territory and Poland has the biggest source of trades’ people within Europe,” said Ms Martin.

The website www.australiasnorthernterritory.com.au provides information about the business support programs offered by the Territory Government to assist local employers. It also provides access to the Territory Worker Database, which connects NT employers with skilled people looking for jobs in the Territory.
