The Parks and Wildlife Commission of the NT (PWCNT) invites you to lace up your boots and head on out for a walk in the park.
PWCNT Community Engagement Officer for Katherine Region, Clare Pearce said the popular 2014 Walk in the Park series in Nitmiluk National Park, will be on again this year and will be expanding to include walks in Central Australian and Darwin regions as well.
“Many people want to spend time
wandering along the beautiful tracks and trails in our National Parks and
Reserves, but for so many reasons have not yet had the chance to do so,” Ms
Pearce said.
“This year the Parks and Wildlife
Commission will be giving people the chance to accompany a Ranger while they
find their hiking feet in Nitmiluk National Park, Alice Springs Telegraph
Station, Simpsons Gap Trephina Gorge Nature Park, Litchfield National Park and
Fogg Dam Conservation Reserve.
“The series of walks are fun, free,
first time hiker friendly, are a great opportunity to explore tracks and trails
with like-minded people and are also a great way to de-stress and reset before
the week ahead.
“Walks start from the short, but
spectacular, 2.6km Leliyn Loop at Edith Falls in Nitmiluk National Park or the
rugged and close to town Bradshaw Walk at the Alice Springs Telegraph Station
and finish with more challenging half day hikes to some spectacular gems such
as Sweetwater Pool, Trephina Gorge and Litchfield National Park.
“All participants will need to be able
to walk at least three kilometres over an uneven track and carry their own
drinks and snacks for the day.”
