Territory school communities will again unite to combat and take a stand together against bullying and violence in a national push to counter intimidation.
The rallying cry of the annual National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence on Friday 20 March, is ‘Take a Stand Together’ and this year more than 30 Territory schools have registered to join the campaign.
The National Day of Action has gained significant traction within school communities, with a record number of 962,333 school children participating across Australia in the previous year.
Last year, Driver Primary School students from Transition to Year 6 rallied to the Bullying No Way! clarion call by creating a protest video.
“The students created a four-minute song video called No More Bullying, where they acted out segments to the lyrics of the No More Bullying song,” Principal Rob Presswell said.
“The film is now used in classes to promote the anti-bullying message and encourage students to have a strong voice focussed on safety, respect and doing the right thing.”
The students also emphasised their theme variant ‘Let’s Take a Hand Together’ with a montage of coloured handprints.
The day empowers children by helping them to identify the types of bullying and the help available for victims and those who display bullying behaviours.
