Locals and visitors can now have a go at the newest world-wide water sport craze, flyboarding, at the Darwin Waterfront.
Darwin Flyboarding is one of two operators who have been successful in the Darwin Waterfront Corporation’s call for expressions of interest to operate water recreational activities on a trial basis.
The purpose of the trial period is for the Corporation and the operators to assess the long-term viability of running organised water based activities at Darwin Waterfront.
Flyboarding will commence operations this Friday (20 February) and a floating water park is anticipated to commence by the end of March 2015.
The Corporation has been looking at ways to better utilise the Recreation Lagoon, as it’s one of the safest places to swim in the Northern Territory and Darwin puts on perfect swimming weather for the most part of the year.
“It’s really exciting to be able to bring our sport down to Darwin’s beautiful harbour-side at the Darwin Waterfront. We think this is one of the best locations to Flyboard in Australia.” Gerard Petrov, Darwin Flyboarding said.
“Anyone from over the age of 12 years can have a go at flyboarding, there’s no height or weight restriction.”
“Flyboard riders stand on a board connected by an 18 metre long hose to a jetski. Water is forced under pressure to a pair of boots with jet nozzles underneath which provide thrust for the rider to fly above the water.”
“First timers can expect to reach heights of up to 2 – 3 metres in the air. Throughout their hire session they are monitored by an instructor who is controlling their propulsion and giving directions from the jetski.”
“We have found that the average person takes only 5 – 10 minutes to be up flying and manovering around. The flyboard works intuitively with your body, allowing you to move freely and glide effortlessly above the water.” Helen Mackey, Darwin Flyboarding said.
“It’s great entertainment for the spectators within the restaurants, apartments or parklands, particularly when our experienced flyboarders put on a demonstration which can reach up to 10 metres in the air.”
Darwin Flyboarding will operate Friday to Sunday, 9am to 6pm. To make a reservation please visit www.darwinflyboarding.com or call 0428 782 753.
