Kids can learn to surf these school holidays in the Wave Lagoon.
Surf Life Saving NT is offering five-day surf programs which focus on surfing skill development for children aged between 7 to 13 years old. Classes run from Monday to Friday, 8.15am to 10.15am.
“The boys and
girls are encouraged to progress at their own pace and new skills are
introduced by the instructors each day for those ready for the next challenge,”
Tony Snelling, Chief Executive Officer, Surf Life Saving NT said.
“The program teaches all the basics of surfboard
paddling and wave riding through lots of exercises and drills to improve
balance, fitness and coordination.”
“The Wave Lagoon is a perfect learn-to-surf
environment because a wave is produced
every three seconds so there’s very little waiting and lots of surfing in every
session.”
“The first week of
the program has been extremely successful, and we have 14 young surfers
graduating tomorrow.”
“All the kids have
been really impressed with their new ‘wave catching’ skills; it’s great for
their self-confidence as well as providing a fun and active alternative these
school holidays.”
Cost to
participate is $229 per child which includes five lessons, use of a 'learn-to-surf soft-board' and a Surfing NT rashie, plus a drink or ice-cream at the end
of each class.
