Free School Holiday Fun at the Darwin Waterfront

Darwin Waterfront Corporation

Free school holiday activities are back every weekday from 10am at the Darwin Waterfront. The school holiday program starts tomorrow (Monday 5 January) and will run until Friday 23 January 2015.

A three week program of free activities has been planned to keep the kids busy, so now there’s no excuse for school holiday boredom.

Inflatable squash courts, tennis nets, netballs, juggling balls and footy goals are some of the things which will be seen in the Darwin Waterfront’s parklands over the next few weeks.

There will be plenty of water activities on the lawns with water tag on every Monday and a waterslide every Thursday.

It’s also a chance for children to try new activities for free, and get information on how the kids can join up for programs in 2015. Parents can come down to the Darwin Waterfront and speak directly to institutions providing activities including; Netball NT, Tennis NT, AusKick, Squash NT, Corrugated Iron and Life. Be In It.

A new activity that’s been included in this program is Kids Yoga, which not only improves children’s strength, but also provides techniques for calming and relaxation. The boys and girls will learn yoga poses including a cat, frog, tree and forward pose.

Hyper the Clown’s Magic Workshop will use everyday items and the magic word “abracadabra” to create magic, and the kids won’t even need to bring their magic wands. Most of the tricks that will be taught are science based and educational.

A large undercover marquee will be provided for shade and weather protection.

The Wave Lagoon is also open 7 days a week 10am to 6pm. $18 gets a family of two adults and three kids all day entry, single entry is $5 for children and seniors, or $7 for adults.

Patrons are reminded to be sun-smart and wear sunscreen and bring a hat and water.

Parking – Paid street parking applies on weekdays between 8am and 5pm. Free street parking applies on weekends. Paid parking applies 7 days for the multi-level car parks. Park 2 hours FREE at the Kitchener Drive multi-level car park or $2 for 3hrs & $4 for 4hrs.
