Go Wild at the Darwin Waterfront this New Year’s Eve

Darwin Waterfront Corporation

The Darwin Waterfront is going wild this New Year’s Eve with a “Jungle Party” that’s sure to bring out the party animal in everyone.

For the first time the 9pm fireworks spectacular will be synchronised to the unique high energy beats of local artist eMDee. This will be a spectacular collaboration between the world renowned eMDee and Australia’s largest fireworks group, Howard and Sons Pyrotechnics.

Their explosive, pyrotechnic musicals have gathered much acclaim around the world including bringing home both a gold and bronze medal for Australia and the Montreal Fireworks Festival in Canada.

“This is the Ferrari model of fireworks displays,” Mark Petkidis, Howards and Sons pyrotechnic said.

“Imagine the beats of the live didgeridoo and drums synchronised to a 15 minute fireworks display.”

“It’s one of Australia’s most innovative explosive spectaculars and this is the first time it’ll be seen on the pristine lawns of the Darwin Waterfront.”

Bring the kids down early to meet Dora the Explorer at 5pm, then kick back in the parklands and enjoy live music with Natalie Pellegrino Duo, eMDee and The Tamarang featuring Benni Percussion until 10pm.

There’ll be ten roaming animal mascots. Meet a pink gorilla, a crocodile, a lady alligator, a pink panther, a panda, a lion, a tiger, a monkey and a ring-tailed lemur.

Animal masks will be handed out for those that get in quick or you can get your face painted as any animal of your choosing for free.

Dress up for your opportunity to win a family weekend away at the Darwin Waterfront including one night a in a two bedroom room at the Adina Apartment Hotel Darwin Waterfront, breakfast for two adults and two children and a $100 voucher at Shine Gifts. The runner-up best dressed will receive a family day trip to Edith Falls and Katherine Gorge with AAT Kings.

Pack a picnic or pick up a feast from one of the food stalls. Eskies are allowed, but patrons are reminded that this is strictly an alcohol and glass free event.

Bring a rug or chairs for casual seating on the lawns, and be sure to bring a poncho in case it rains – as the show will go on! There’ll be undercover marquees for party-goers to retreat to should it get a little wet in the jungle.

Free parking will be available from 4pm to midnight on Wednesday 31 December in on-street and off-street parking bays at the Waterfront including the Kitchener Drive Multi-Storey Car Park and the Darwin Convention Centre Basement Car Park. To avoid delays, park in the city and take the short walk across the Smith Street Sky Bridge.
