Bushfires NT is inviting the public to provide comment on a Recommendation Paper as part of the review into the Bushfires Act.
Bushfires NT Director Mark Ashley said the Bushfires Act was first introduced in 1980 to provide the legislative framework for bushfire management outside the major urban centres of the Northern Territory.
“A lot has changed since 1980, which is why the Act is being reviewed to ensure it’s as effective as it needs to be, now and for the next 30 years, ,” Mr Ashley said.
“The public was invited to comment on a discussion paper and summary paper from February 2014 which generated submissions from a broad cross section of stakeholders, resulting in the Recommendations Paper that’s now out for public comment.
“We invite the public to comment on this Recommendations Paper so that community ideas, thoughts and sentiment are appropriately captured.
“We want legislation that is modern and reflective of what is happening now in the Northern Territory and that’s why we want to hear directly from Territorians.
“Feedback received on this document will be used to review and refine these recommendations before they are presented for ministerial approval.”
The Recommendation Paper is available at www.lrm.nt.gov.au and includes details about how to make a submission.
Submissions close Friday, 27 March 2015.
