Applications Now Open for NT History Grants

The Northern Territory Archives Service (NTAS) is pleased to announce that applications for the 2014 Northern Territory History Grants are now open.

NTAS Director Phyllis Williams said the Northern Territory History Grants were established by the Northern Territory Government to commemorate the attainment of self-government on 1 July 1978.

“The Grants support and encourage research into Northern Territory History and a total of $58,000 in funding will be available this year for the grants,” Ms Williams said.

“The Northern Territory has a fascinating and relatively unexplored history and the NT History Grants offer an opportunity to help uncover more of its hidden treasures and secrets.

“The NT History Grants encourage NT residents, societies and community organisations to explore this rich and unique history through original research.

 “Projects could include collection and transcription of Oral History, indexing and production of research guides to collections relevant to NT History or written histories that tell a story of the Territory’s rich history.

“Preference will be given to applications covering topics which have not been researched before or if the topic has been researched before, the application must propose a new approach.”

The NTAS encourages the use of archival resources for History Grants projects and the scope of the grants include:

·         funding to assist with printing expenses, development of audio and visual material, and web expenses;

·         Travel and accommodation;

·         Administrative/technical assistance;

·         Stationery and consumables;

·         Incidental research fees; and

·         Copying charges.

Applications close on Wednesday, 24 December 2014.
