Northern Territory Public Sector (NTPS) staff gave generously in the 2013/14 financial year, donating a record breaking $41,222 to charity.
Commissioner of Public Employment Craig Allen said he had encouraged NTPS staff to access the Payroll Giving Program before the end of the last financial year and was impressed with the result.
“The Payroll Giving Program makes it easy for NTPS employees to donate to charities,” Mr Allen said.
“Employees can make one-off or regular donations to eligible charities through the internal employee system MyHR.
“Staff responded enthusiastically, giving the largest amount of funds donated by NTPS employees in the history of the program.”
The $41,222 figure was up from $3,659 in 2011/12.
The money went to 51 charities, with Medecins Sans Frontieres Australia (Doctors Without Borders), RSPCA Darwin and Oxfam receiving the most support.
The Department of Health, NT Police, Fire and Emergency Services and the Department of the Chief Minister were the top three agencies that donated the most.
“The Payroll Giving Program provides staff with the opportunity to demonstrate community spirit, and build stronger relationships with community organisations,” Mr Allen said.
“It was great to see such a positive outcome achieved.
“I am pleased that Northern Territory Public Sector staff were utilising the facilities available through MyHR, but more importantly saw the inherent value in donating to charities.
“I am proud to be in such a generous, community orientated Public Service.”
