Northern Territory Planning Commission Have your say about the Humpty Doo of the future

27 May 2023

The Northern Territory Planning Commission will start consultation on a draft land use plan for Humpty Doo from today.

The Humpty Doo Rural Activity Centre Area Plan will guide future land use and land use decisions within the Humpty Doo Rural Activity Centre.

Once finalised, the Area Plan will enable growth and development, while minimising adverse impacts on the wider rural area. It will support the efficient delivery of infrastructure and the ongoing viability of the commercial centre.

The month-long consultation is the Commission’s third round of engagement with the community since 2018, and will assist to refine and finalise the draft Humpty Doo Rural Activity Centre Area Plan.

Earlier consultations heard strong feedback around the arterial and local road networks. The recent completion of a concept design for the future duplication of the Arnhem Highway by the NT Government now allows work on the draft Area Plan to resume.

The NT Planning Commission has revised and updated the draft Area Plan, incorporating previous community feedback and learnings from the Arnhem Highway Duplication Planning Study.

The NT Planning Commission team will be at Fred’s Pass Show this weekend, where the community are encouraged to discuss and learn more about the draft Area Plan.

Consultation closes on Friday 30 June 2023.

Quotes attributed to NT Planning Commission Chairman Dr David Ritchie:

“Our focus on planning in the Activity Centre will help maintain the amenity and lifestyle of the broader rural area, ensure there are reticulated services available to the growing population, and help protect the rural area from ribbon development.

“I encourage the Humpty Doo community to have their say on this draft Area Plan and help us to refine the plan.”
