Territory Arts Projects grants will provide practical support to the sector in response to COVID-19, through the Territory Government’s $2 million Creative Industries Sector Immediate Response and Resilience Program.

Developed to support existing and emerging Northern Territory artists in the creation of new artistic works, Territory Arts Project funding will enable artists to explore new ways to engage with communities and showcase their work.

18 local artists and art workers have been awarded $261 707 through Round 1 of the Territory Arts Project, in a highly competitive grant round with 87 submissions received.

Alice Springs World Chamber Orchestra have been provided $19 997 to enable a live streamed performance. Developed in response to COVID-19, the special broadcast will showcase the artistic talent of the region to a broad audience and enable skills development and capacity building for local musicians.

Jilamara Arts And Crafts Association on the Tiwi Islands will receive $20 000 to support the development of techniques and skills in Marriwiyi, an ornamentation practice that involves the making of ceremonial adornments. The project will enable the remote arts centre to provide a deep level of family and community engagement, and the sharing of knowledge and culture within the Territory and wider audiences.

North-East Arnhem Land artist Yirrmal has been provided $20 000 to create music video clips for his soon to be released EP and two new singles. The funding will help build the songwriter and guitarist’s profile, enable audience development and benefit the community through local employment.

Two grant rounds are being conducted to ensure sustainability of the artistic and cultural sector and underpin the Territory’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Round 2 applications are now open and will close on 25 June 2020.
