Tune in and watch the Uluru Camel Cup online this year

Thousands of viewers across Australia will watch the classic outback event, the Uluru Camel Cup, unfold on screen this year with it being held as a virtual event for 2020.

From 12pm – 2.30pm on Saturday 30 May, viewers can watch the nail-biting heats and final race live on YouTube and tune in to watch the traditional highlights of the weekend such as reptile shows, camel poo throwing competition, fashions ‘off’ the field and a damper cooking demonstration.

Whilst the format of the Cup will be slightly different, with no crowds permitted due to covid-19, the opportunity to stream the race across the country will give the event more reach than the traditional format and a chance for those outside of the Northern Territory to experience this iconic occasion from home.

Global and national broadcast coverage is confirmed and local production house Global Headquarters will film and produce the event in conjunction with Uluru Camel Tours. Chris Hill, the event organiser, will MC the broadcast.

Viewers will be able to feel like they’re at the event by selecting a camel to barrack for and engaging with friends and family via the livestreaming chat function during the race.

Our beautiful regions will also be featured with a range of ‘advertisements’ showcasing popular content including the Red Centre Local’s Tips series and We Are Explorers videos, encouraging viewers to come and visit once border control measures are lifted.

Quote from Tourism NT Executive General Manager Marketing, Tony Quarmby:

“In these challenging times for tourism it’s more important than ever to keep the Territory as a holiday destination top of mind.

“Now is a great time to encourage Australians to enjoy the Territory remotely by promoting some of our best unique events, such as the Uluru Camel Cup, to inspire visitors to book a holiday and experience our amazing destination for themselves as soon as the time is right.”

Quotes from Chris Hill, Uluru Camel Cup Event Organiser

“I am excited about the opportunity to showcase our event to possibly more people than ever before with the online broadcast of this year’s Uluru Camel Cup.

“The events industry has taken a huge hit recently but we don’t want people to miss out. The online streaming of this event allows us to showcase our event and provide an engaging experience to hopefully encourage future attendance.”
